So your girl went to Zagreb, which is the capital of Croatia- I'm not gonna lie I didn't know this until a few weeks ago. My friend Usha needed a quick birthday getaway and to be honest I needed to get the hell away from Scotland. Some might say I needed to "ghost" Scotland.
I actually was very skeptical of going to Croatia simply because I’ve never heard of a black person travelling there- or Russia or Poland. Don’t ask, we just don’t do it. The same way we don’t ski or bungee jump. We savor our lives. Having said that I’ve just completed my first hike so maybe there’s a misconception there. My stepdad also didn’t help as he kept saying I’ll get abducted in Eastern Europe #Taken4.

My first thoughts as soon as I arrived at the Airport was “Am I in one of those Sci-Fi movies or am I in an episode of Black mirror?” You know the movies where everything is white and futuristic. That’s Zagreb Airport. I felt like I was watching Grand Designs. That’s why it probably makes sense that I picked up the wrong suitcase. I was obviously too confused. Don’t worry I hunted for it back the next day. I didn’t do a Zara holiday haul for nothing.

Zagreb in a nutshell is an “Old meets New” kind of city. That “opposites attract” thing really works. I’m glad I use that expression to describe a city because I certainly cannot say that about my past relationships. I would say Zagreb is beautifully oxymoronic, (I know that sounds ridiculously fancy) but it makes sense to me. It makes more sense to me than my dating history anyway. If you’re religious, the Zagreb Cathedral is a must. If you’re not, the Cathedral is still a must. In the words of Nike- Just Do it!

I loved the beautiful blue trams located everywhere across the city. Almost mistook one for a bus until my friend viciously grabbed me. You can take the girl out of Zimbabwe but can’t take the Zimbabwe out of the girl.
You know I love a list so here it goes: Reasons to visit Zagreb
1. It’s Cheap
2. It’s timeless
3. It’s close to the UK and
4. its filled with coffee shops every square meter and we all know coffee is life.

Ps Try Croatian Rakija, also beware it might get you drunk very quickly.
